Wobbe Index

05/04/2011

Adriatic LNG started operation of the Terminal without offering a Wobbe index correction service (“WCS”). Adriatic LNG has continued to evaluate options to provide a WCS and the cost /benefit of the associated investment.  Due consideration has also been given to the progress made towards the European Commission’s (“EC”) plans for the harmonization of gas specifications throughout Europe (see http://ec.europa.eu/energy/gas_electricity/gas_quality_harmonisation_en.htm )

It should be noted that the engineering, installation and commissioning of any new hardware required for the provision of a WCS would require several years to complete and additional costs.  It is currently anticipated that the EC revised pan-European gas specifications should be finalised in a similar timeframe and subsequent implementation would likely render a WCS redundant soon after commissioning. As a consequence, among other things, new investments in the WCS may not be considered compliant with the cost effective expectation required in the applicable regulation.

Adriatic LNG actively supports the development and implementation of pan-European gas specifications. Indeed, wider gas specifications in Italy and harmonization in Europe will enhance competition and could attract more LNG to European countries from alternative sources.

Please note that the Wobbe Index range acceptable by the Terminal is currently 47.31 MJ/Sm³ to 52.13 MJ/Sm³.  For commercial enquiries please contact the Adriatic LNG Commercial Department at the following address:
