Construction
The terminal became operational in 2009, after a long phase of construction and startup, which took place mainly in the shipyard of the basin of Campamento, at Algeciras, in southern Spain.

    May 2005 Construction of the GBS begins at Algeciras, Spain
 
    March 2007 LNG storage tanks are installed in the GBS
 
    July 2007 The GBS structure is completed
 
    August 2008 The GBS leaves Spain, towed by four large ocean tugs to reach its final destination off the Veneto coast
 
    September 2008 The terminal enters its final hook-up and commissioning phase
 
    October 2008 Berthing facilities (so called "Mooring Dolphins") leave the Arsenale shipyard in Venice to reach the terminal for installation
 
    10 August 2009 The first cargo of Qatar LNG delivered for cooling the tanks and processing plant
 
    6 September 2009 First gas sent out from Adriatic LNG terminal to Italian national gas network
