Adriatic LNG reaches the milestone of 450th LNG carrier

Adriatic LNG, the company operating the regasification terminal located off the Veneto coastline, announces the arrival of the 450th LNG carrier, the Ejnan. The carrier, which left Ras Laffan Port in Qatar, arrived at the offshore terminal after 12 days of navigation.

Delivering a cargo of about 145,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) equivalent to nearly 90 million cubic meters of gas, the Ejnan is one of the 30 different carriers of the several Adriatic LNG’s customers, that, at present, have arrived at the terminal.

Since the beginning of operation, in October 2009, the Adriatic LNG terminal opened up a new phase in the national energy supply system, enabling Italy to import LNG from Qatar, Egypt, Trinidad and Tobago, Equatorial Guinea and Norway. More than 37 billion of cubic meters of gas, over the fifty per cent of the overall national consumption of LNG in 2015, have been delivered to the National grid in almost 7 years of activity. The Adriatic LNG terminal is confirming its strategic role in the national energy scenario, increasing LNG import capacity and diversification of gas sources and making the energy supply in Italy more secure.

Crossing the line of the 450th LNG carrier proves once again the efficiency and reliability of Adriatic LNG regasification terminal. The use of technology that combines innovation and environmental protection, the adoption of a structured maintenance program, a safety culture which is deeply rooted in the entire organization and a strong sense of responsibility for local communities are the elements that underpin the success of this infrastructure, which is expected to welcome the 500th LNG cargo in early 2017.

Adriatic LNG is a crucial operator within the Italian and European industrial framework and, at the same time, is a company deeply rooted in Veneto territory. Adriatic LNG has invested more than 250 million Euros in contracts with about 60 local companies, attaching great value to the employment of local resources: among  the 125 employees – working in Milan’s offices, in the Shore Base in Porto Viro and on the offshore terminal – more than one-third (43) comes from Veneto, mainly from Rovigo and Venice.
